(H. sikokiana x Platycrater arguta) Variations of this hybrid have spontaneously appeared here in seed blocks since 2007. This OP plant plant dates back to a seed batch from sikokiana in 2021, and is the first we have noted where the flowers have the fragrance of its platyarguta parent, and pretty pink buds to boot! This has been a compact plant like platyarguta, and somewhat sensitive to watering, like its sikokiana parent. In general appearance, the foliage favors its pollen parent, and the somewhat pendulous inflorescences are almost spherical and profuse, as they are born on the terminal of nearly every shoot with old wood in late spring. These are small but established rooted cuttings in 3” pots. We would typically wait to them grow on before we put them online, but based on last year’s experience they will all sell at the nursery before we have the chance. Best in some shade. Z6?
