A low, spreading species, with somewhat felted foliage vaguely reminiscent of S. officinalis, but never forms significant woody stems, and the flowers rise from basal foliage. Cuttings from a plant we received at a New England NARGS chapter meeting 15 years ago, and though it has suffered all manner of brutality in the ground here, it has always managed to look good. A perfect plant for a difficult spot in sun with drainage. Z5, Quart pot
